Lake Country, British Columbia: October, 2023

View of Lake Okanagan

Cool nights and warm days are the norm during the month of October in Lake Country.  This area has a variety of fruit growing businesses. I am living in an apple orchard.  As I walk up the slight and gradual slope to the residence, I’m surrounded by rows of apple and cherry trees.

It is harvest time. There are large bins down each row.  The pickers fill these bins with the apples picked from the trees. Each filled bin is re-located to a position on the property for easy access for the packing companies to take the bins away in preparation for delivery to the variety of grocery stores.

The few maple trees in this area are showing their brilliant red leaves. It is a delight to walk by these trees.  The remainder landscape is mostly green. There is no dramatic change of fall colours visible among the traditionally grown fruit trees.

Lake Country is a peaceful environment with little traffic surrounding the farms. There are very few sidewalks; hence it presents itself as a country environment with very few to no pedestrians walking on the lonely sidewalks. This makes it an enjoyable walk taking in the fresh country air and observing the distant mountain scape in the distance.
